Animal guides/familiars

I would love to hear a segment on animals and their magical/otherworldly relationship to us.

I have a dog who is a familiar to me. I used to try to keep her away from my circle, but I didn't know that all she wanted was to be included. It isn't that she just follows me around or is constantly under my feet. She stands next to me and will face each quarter when I am calling the quarters. It is almost like she is keeping watch when I am inside the circle. She also likes to sit beside me when I meditate.
